TUI Mein Schiff 7

The Making of Memories

On the new Mein Schiff 7, the "feel good ship" concept is taken to new heights. TUI Mein Schiff 7's commitment to hospitality is designed to make every moment of your stay an unforgettable journey of pleasure and relaxation. The ship's art collection, thoughtfully curated by ArtLink, features works by artists from around the globe, with a strong emphasis on European artists to resonate with the Mein Schiff sensibilities. Embodying the Mein Schiff philosophy that every moment is a journey, the art collection invites guests to explore and interact with artworks, guiding them to create and collect memories with each interaction. As they navigate the collection throughout the ship, they become the creators of their own memorable journeys.

Navigating a New Voyage

Embark on a journey of discovery aboard the ship where the art collection serves as a testament to the spirit of maritime exploration and the art of navigation. Inspired by the tools and traditions of seafaring, each artwork ignites our sense of adventure and invites us to explore new horizons.

From works inspired by maps that evoke historical cartography, to symbolic representations of guidance, navigation, and wayfinding, the collection inspires guests to savor every moment of their journey and connect with their natural surroundings.

A large wood veneer wall mural by Olly Fathers navigates form through a study of shape and color, encouraging viewers to ponder the relationship between the two. Two wall installations of by Batit Studio are made of ceramic tiles in patterns reminiscent of a navigation switchboard, inviting guests to consider the intricate connections between communications of seafaring. Routes and paths woven throughout the ship by Studio Digonnet encourage guests to reflect on their experiences and plan their next destinations, creating a sense of anticipation and exploration. Other works by the studio are reminiscent of submarine crafts, capturing the mystery and wonder of underwater exploration.

Sustainable Threads

Woven like a traditional textile artwork, this work is made from traditional rope wrapped in threads made from recycled bottles. Merging the realms of craft and sustainability, Netherlands-based German artist Joanna Schneider incorporates techniques from passementeri and tapestry making alongside traditional net-making methods like pluis netting and dolly knotting, skills passed down by local net makers in the Netherlands.

Trained by local net makers in the Netherlands, Schneider's artistic process pays homage to the labor-intensive techniques and emphasizes the role of Dutch craftsmen in her oeuvre. Her intuitive approach, inspired by traditional practices such as netmaking in the fisheries sector, results in spacious and sometimes uncanny installations that engage viewers visually, tactically, and even through natural scents.

Journey Through Nature

The art collection takes on the spirit of discovery – from archeology to marine biology, works take inspiration from the famous explorers, botanists, and naturalists that have sailed the seas. A living moss wall piece by Plant the Future and a flock of birds cut from maps by Claire Brewster guide the explorer’s eye through mazes of imagined journeys.

Murals by Gavin Goodman invite viewers to envision their own adventurous expedition through nature, while works of marine specimens by Julie Bergeron awaken the curiosity of marine discovery. Concrete and bamboo globular sculptures by Vero Reato evoke a sense of the interconnectedness of our world.

A hypnotic piece by French digital artist Mathieu Merlet Briand leads this collection. Masterfully synthesized from thousands of images, videos, and digital data, the work invites viewers to become one with nature, through a dynamic panoramic landscape view that changes as they move. The artist explores the intersection of nature and technology, reflecting our contemporary hybrid reality between them.

By promoting interaction and unity with the environment, these art installations provide an enchanting experience that awakens the senses and encourages a profound connection with the natural world.

Exploring Matter and Form

Reflecting TUI Mein Schiff’s commitment to sustainability and discovery, several artists featured on Mein Schiff 7 were chosen for their innovative and eco-friendly practices. Among them, American, Polish, and Italian artist Caroline Zimbalist created a series of unique bioplastic sculptures distributed throughout the ship. Inspired by nature, the artist envisions unconventional amalgamations of shapes and colors, capturing the essence of our curious, evolving world.

Using a mix of plant-based and natural materials, including starch, glycerin, and agar powder, the artist employs innovative techniques to mold and dye the eco-friendly bioplastic into unique, organic forms. The inherent versatility of bioplastic allows for endless exploration in creating new forms, making each piece a testament to the limitless possibilities of ecologically-conscious art. This approach enhaces the experience of discovery aboard the ship, encouraging guests to connect deeply with both the art and the environment.
