Absorbing Music

ArtLink collaborated with acclaimed interior designer, Adam D. Tihany for Holland America Line on three vast and exciting projects: the Koningsdam, the Nieuw Statendam, and the Rotterdam. Throughout the history of Holland America Line, the company’s purpose remained the same: to give its passengers once-in-a-lifetime experiences during their journeys. This legacy continues onboard the Rotterdam, transforming the passenger’s individual observation into a one-of-a-kind sensational experience through sight.

The art collection onboard the Rotterdam focuses on artworks in a variety of media to explore the way we hear, perceive and understand music: from the path a sound-wave makes to the nostalgic moments each of us cherishes from our own unique experiences of music.

Atrium Sculpture

“Surrounding our guests with a vast array of meaningful artwork is a natural extension of the cruise experience.”

Orlando Ashford • Former President, Holland America Line

Star Quality

Combining the worlds of music and fashion, the art collection in the Club Orange Restaurant presents photographs of iconic figures known for their bold wardrobe choices together with vibrantly coloured contemporary artworks influenced by patterns of the restaurant’s Hermès-inspired design.

Skylines & Soundwaves

Emphasizing the connection between one's memories and musical excerpts, artworks in the Explorer's Lounge will present the concept of sailing trips and how a journey once taken can create an unbreakable relationship between places and music. The works include skylines of different places that blur into sound waves by American/Ukrainian artist Anna Marinenko.

Structure of Sound

Italy-based artist and pianist Federico Picci explores the invisible nature of music through Balloon Concerto, a poetic visual metaphor where softly colored spheres rise from a grand piano, filling the space like musical notes drifting through air.

As guests arrive, they are welcomed by this work in a striking mural at the reception area, setting the tone for the journey ahead. This work was selected by ArtLink curators for this space as an introduction to the ship's broader collection narrative centering on how we hear, perceive, and connect with music.
