Studio Visit | Redfield & Dattner
We had the privilege of going behind the scenes at Redfield & Dattner’s Paris studio during the making of the hand-crafted gilded murals and wallcoverings we commissioned for our curated art collection at The St. Regis Budapest. Take a look inside the studio and see how the works came to life.
Drawing on a deep knowledge of decorative art history and a mastery of traditional techniques, Redfield & Dattner reinterprets historic craftsmanship for contemporary spaces.
Experts in decorative art history and materiality, the studio brings together deep knowledge of historic decorative styles and techniques with the technical expertise to reinterpret them for contemporary interiors. For this ArtLink commission, a range of traditional and contemporary processes came together, including painting and églomisé, relief carving and gold leaf, and collage.
Their understanding of decorative art history, combined with a mastery of materials, craftsmanship and large-scale hand-painted surfaces, provided a particularly rich foundation for the works. The resulting pieces were designed to evoke the experience of being immersed in the gilded spectacle of the Hungarian State Opera House, translating its sense of ornament, craftsmanship and theatricality into the contemporary setting of the St. Regis Budapest hotel.
